An exquisitely unfolding story that approaches the horror of the Holocaust from a different perspective - that of the many refugees who suspected but were left in the agony of uncertainty.
The restrained Britishness of the era is beautifully depicted and - just like some of the most effective and emotive music - times its climax to perfection.

The song of names book summary

The Song of namespaces. Yes, this is a wonderful and memorable film. The director, Francois Girard, and, I suspect, the same Canadian production company were involved in the 1998 RED VIOLIN. Like that film it takes place over multiple time periods, in this film clearly stated to be 1951, 1986, and the earliest, unidentified time which can be inferred to be sometime between March and September 1939. The scene shifts back and forth a good deal and some critics found this confusing and destructive of continuity but I found no difficulty in following the story line. Memory is not linear and orderly but rather fragmented and out of sequence, particularly when dealing with highly charged emotionally traumatic experiences. This is an exceptionally intelligent screenplay where not everything has to be spelled out. It's true that a key plot point mystery is fairly predictable. Yet the story builds to a wrenching climax in a way you don't see every day in the movies.
Tim Roth plays well against type as a quiet, introspective Brit. The score composer, Howard Shore, was involved in composing the impressive music in the Lord of the Rings and does an award-deserving job here. I rate the film at 3.5/4 stars. Strongly recommended for everybody, especially any serious music student as well as anyone of Jewish background, particularly of GenX through to Millennials.

Apparently there were no women, all Jews are also men.
I normally like movies with music duels, and still falls very short. none of the characters make connection with the audience, they're motivation is useless and no real plot. The song of names ray chen. The Song of names new. This movie broke my heart for the non existing relationship I have 😅😱.

Harry and Sally have known each other for years, and are very good friends, but they fear sex would ruin the friendship / rating: 183004 votes / Actors: Meg Ryan / / Runtime: 95Minute. When Harry met Sally is a classic 1989 Romantic comedy. We are introduced to Harry, and he is blowing off steam by hitting baseballs. When we see Harry with Sally later we understand the dynamic of what is going on between these two characters.
Sally is wild and free, which is portrayed by her crazy hair and the fact that she fakes an orgasm in the middle of restaurant and doesn't give a damn about who is watching, just to prove her point to Harry, my kind of person! Sally speaks up against him and his nonsense, they become almost equals which changes their dynamics and eventually makes them realise that they are perfect for each other.
This is a classic romantic comedy with great humour at many points in the film.

So did they date? Because for all eternity they will be Ryan and Kelly to me, but did they date and break up? An on/off thing? They are so cute. As much as I wanted Rachel to end up w/ Ethan... still I want how the movie ends... happily ever after w./ Dex. Coz in real life... that's not how it ends... Oh wait! Why I am even affected? Silly me :D. Lyrics: Why do I do just as you say? Why must I just give you your way? Why do I sigh? Why don't I try to forget? It must have been that something lovers call fate kept me saying I had to wait, I saw them all, just couldn't fall 'til we met It had to be you, it had to be you I wandered around and finally found that somebody who Could make me be true Could make me feel blue And even be glad just to be sad, thinking of you Some others I've seen Might never be mean Might never be cross, or try to be boss But they wouldn't do For nobody else gave me a thrill With all your faults, I love you still It had to be you, wonderful you It had to be you Some others I've seen Might never be mean Might never be cross, or try to be boss But they wouldn't do For nobody else gave me a thrill With all your faults, I love you still It had to be you, wonderful you It had to be you ♥.

Free When Harry Met salle de mariage. | Roger Ebert July 12, 1989 "When Harry Met Sally... " is a love story with a form as old as the movies and dialogue as new as this month's issue of Vanity Fair. It's about two people who could be characters in a Woody Allen movie, if they weren't so sunny, and about how it takes them 12 years to fall in love. We're with them, or maybe a little ahead of them, every step of the way. Harry meets Sally for the first time at the University of Chicago in the spring of 1977, when they team up to share the driving for a trip to New York. Both plan to start their careers in the city - she as a journalist, he as a political consultant. Presumably they are both successful, because they live in those apartments that only people in the movies can afford, but their professional lives are entirely off-screen. We see them only at those intervals when they see each other. Advertisement They meet, for example, several years later, at LaGuardia Airport. She's with a new boyfriend. They meet again after that, when they're both in relationships, and after that, when her boyfriend has left and his wife wants a divorce. They keep on meeting until they realize that they like one another, and they become friends - even though on their very first cross-country trip, Harry warned Sally that true friendship is impossible between a man and a woman, because the issue of sex always gets in the way. The movie apparently believes that - and it also suggests that the best way to get rid of sex as an issue is to get married, since married people always seem too tired for sex. That and other theories about sex and relationships are tested as if Harry and Sally were proving grounds for Cosmopolitan, until finally, tired of fighting, they admit that they do love one another after all. The movie was written by Nora Ephron, and could be a prequel to her novel and screenplay " Heartburn, " which starred Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep in the story of a marriage and divorce. But this marriage seems headed for happier times, maybe because most of the big fights are out of the way before love is even declared. Harry is played by Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan is Sally, and they make a good movie couple because both actors are able to suggest genuine warmth and tenderness. This isn't a romance of passion, although passion is present, but one that becomes possible only because the two people have grown up together, have matured until they can finally see clearly what they really want in a partner. Ephron's dialogue represents the way people would like to be able to talk. It's witty and epigrammatic, and there are lots of lines to quote when you're telling friends about the movie. The dialogue would defeat many actors, but Crystal and Ryan help it to work; their characters seem smart and quick enough to almost be this witty. It's only occasionally that the humor is paid for at the expense of credibility - as in a hilarious but unconvincing scene where Sally sits in a crowded restaurant and demonstrates how to fake an orgasm. I laughed, but somehow I didn't think Sally, or any woman, would really do that. "When Harry Met Sally... " was directed by Rob Reiner, the onetime Meathead of "All in the Family, " whose credits now qualify him as one of Hollywood's very best directors of comedy. Reiner's films include " The Sure Thing, " "Stand by Me, " "This Is Spinal Tap! " and " The Princess Bride. " Each film is completely different from the others, and each one is successful on its own terms. This film is probably his most conventional, in terms of structure and the way it fulfills our expectations. But what makes it special, apart from the Ephron screenplay, is the chemistry between Crystal and Ryan. She is an open-faced, bright-eyed blond; he's a gentle, skinny man with a lot of smart one-liners. What they both have (to repeat) is warmth. Crystal demonstrated that quality in his previous film, the underrated "Memories Of Me, " and it's here again this time, in scenes when he visibly softens when he sees that he has hurt her. He is one of the rare actors who can make an apology on the screen, and convince us he means it. Ryan (from " Innerspace, " " The Presidio " and "D. O. A. ") has a difficult assignment - she spends most of the movie convincing Harry, and herself, that there's nothing between them - and she has to let us see that there is something, after all. Harry and Sally are aided, and sometimes hindered, in their romance by the efforts of their best friends ( Carrie Fisher and Bruno Kirby), who meet on a blind date arranged by Harry and Sally, to provide a possible partner for Sally and Harry. They're the kind of people who don't make it hard for themselves, who realize they like each other, and accept that fact, and act on it. Harry and Sally are tougher customers. They fight happiness every step of the way, until it finally wears them down. Reveal Comments comments powered by.

Watch free when harry met sally. Free when harry met sally. meaning. It’s a fact! Ten of them, in fact. All about the comedians from Canada who created the strangest sketch show since that famous flying circus. Scott Thompson, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney, Dave Foley, and Bruce McCulloch. After launching the pilot episode on both CBC and HBO in 1988, The Kids in the Hall —which made its series debut a year later—brought an irreverent, chaotic brand of comedy to the airwaves as a kind of antidote to Saturday Night Live 's pop culture-heavy format. The series contorted and skewered real life, stretching satire to its furthest limits with recurring characters like the chauvinistic Cabbage Head, the explosive Chicken Lady, and others that weren’t human-animal/vegetable hybrids. And it's about to make a comeback! Twenty-five years after airing its final episode, Variety reports that a revival of The Kids in the Hall will be coming to Amazon as its first original Canadian series. Though no release date has been announced for the revival, let’s crush our heads together for some facts about the purveyors of brain candy. 1. The Kids in the Hall adopted their name from a Sid Caesar gag. Whenever Sid Caesar bombed a joke, he’d say that it had been written by “the kids in the hall, ” referring to the young upstarts working for him in the NBC studio of Your Show of Shows. Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald were big Caesar fans, but they didn’t choose the name solely because of that admiration. The “kids” Caesar was goofing on in the 1950s included Mel Brooks, Neil Simon, and others who the new “Kids” also loved. 2. The Kids in the Hall avoided conversations about the nature of comedy. There’s a cottage industry of comedians waxing comically about being funny (think Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee), and it makes sense to assume funny people are always discussing what makes things funny. Yet The Kids in the Hall shied away from navel gazing. “There was always a pooh-poohing of theoretical discussions, ” Mark McKinney told Vulture. McCulloch added that “whenever we’d have a theoretical conversation about comedy, we’d stop because we knew if we kept at it, we’d break up. " 3. The "head crusher" made his debut much earlier than The Kids in the Hall series. One of The Kids in the Hall's most famous characters was the Head Crusher, in which McKinney played a delusional (or was he? ) man who tried to crush people’s heads by squinting through his thumb and forefinger. It turns out that he’s been a champion against yuppiedom since the beginning. “It was something that I created back in our club days, ” McKinney told Esquire. “Kevin and I were having lunch, and we were broke. I think we were splitting a sandwich. We were feeling really poor, and we were having lunch in an area of Toronto called Bay Street which is kind of like Wall Street, so there were a lot of people in very expensive suits all around us talking loud, and I just started crushing their heads, like, ‘You think you so good? I crush your head! ’ And we immediately thought it was funny. " 4. It was a The Kids in the Hall fan who gave them cow eyes. The Kids in the Hall attracted a curious fanbase, including one fan in Vancouver who gave them a jar of cow eyes. But it wasn’t just a gift: He put them out on a plate and asked the Kids to chow down. “We didn’t eat that, ” McDonald told The A. V. Club. 5. Saturday Night Live almost broke The Kids in the Hall up before they even got going. McDonald and Dave Foley were performing as The Kids in the Hall before the group formed into the Voltron of cross-dressing comedy we know. Likewise, McCulloch and McKinney were working together in the improv world. They met and started doing comedy together as The Kids in the Hall, eventually pulling in Thompson in 1985, but that was around the same time that Saturday Night Live came calling for McCulloch and McKinney. They wrote for the iconic show for only a season, necessitating a brief hiatus from the Kids, and when they got back together, it was SNL guru Lorne Michaels who saw their act and set the gears in motion for The Kids in the Hall TV show. 6. The Kids in the Hall made only one (super divisive) movie together. Many TV comedies have tried to make the jump to feature films by trying to make their humor appeal to an even larger audience. That’s not what The Kids in the Hall did. They actually went even weirder when they made 1996’s Brain Candy, a film about a struggling pharmaceutical company that hits on a potent antidepressant which becomes a massive success (except when it drives people into comas where they relive their favorite memories on loop). It featured several characters from their show alongside many new ones, and was so divisive that Siskel and Ebert all but yelled at each other while reviewing it (Siskel loved it; Ebert... not so much). 7. Brain Candy was made under incredibly depressing circumstances. A cult film through and through (read: a box office flop), Brain Candy also represented the end of the road for The Kids in the Hall. It came after their TV show was over, and when the group's members were forging their own paths. Foley, who’d found mainstream success with NewsRadio, left the group over creative differences, and lost his writing credit and his main role in Brain Candy. It was a strain on a group that was already buckling, but they were also dealing with a lot of personal problems. “In the period of a month, Dave’s marriage broke up, one of Kevin’s parents died, and my brother committed suicide, ” Thompson later explained. “I was pretty much in shock. My brother died literally a week before we started shooting. All those things conspired to make it a dark time. ” Not to mention they were making a comedy about depression. 8. The Kids in the Hall stand by their most controversial gag. One Kids in the Hall character who made the leap to their movie also ruffled a lot of feathers for those who couldn’t tell where the satirical line had been drawn. Cancer Boy was meant to mock celebrities who sought the spotlight with sick children, but a lot of people thought it was a bad taste jab aimed at the kids. The studio desperately wanted the character cut, and Janet Maslin of The New York Times called it the film’s “worst idea, ” but the Kids defend it to this day. “I love Cancer Boy more than anybody, ” McCulloch, who portrayed the character, told The A. Club. “I was tired of the way that little kids with cancer were used by celebrities for photo ops. If the kid goes into remission, does Wayne Gretzky still visit him? ” The other cast members echoed that support for the controversial joke. 9. “Girl Drink Drunk” had an unhappy origin. In another famous sketch, Foley plays a “grown man” corporate climber peer pressured into having alcohol for the first time. Eventually, the drinks that “taste like candy” ruin his life, hilariously. For McDonald, the idea for the gag came from a ruinous performance when McCulloch bombed throughout a show and then scolded the group, which depressed McDonald to hit a bar with McKinney. The winos at the bar depressed him more, and McKinney convinced him to have his very first drink, a margarita, because “it takes just like candy. " 10. The Kids in the Hall reformed to make a murder mystery. The dissolution of the group after Brain Candy wasn’t the end for The Kids in the Hall. They’ve reunited a few times in the past two decades for live tours, but The Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town was their first time returning to television, and the result is something tonally similar to their sketch show while structurally divergent. It follows a single story—the murder of the mayor of a small town vying to host the 2028 Summer Olympics. Oh, and the scythe-wielding personification of Death has checked into a local motel. It’s still profoundly goofy and seriously silly—and bodes well for their Amazon revival series.

Free online when harry met sally. This movie <3. When harry met sally free online. This is an enjoyable film, but certainly not great. It is very much indebted to Woody Allen. The similarities to Annie Hall abound and there are similarities to other Allen films as well. While that in itself may or may not detract from the film's greatness, it simply does not compare to Allen's work. Annie Hall, for example, is much more witty and original, the writing is better, and it has greater depth. *WARNING, SPOILER in the next sentence: This is a basic Hollywood re-work, complete with the happy ending Annie Hall did not have. Why spend so much time talking about Woody in a review of this film? A. Other people have already given enough synopsis of this film and B. it owes that much to his work. That said, this is a good film - light hearted entertainment - but not anything more.

“You forgot your Spanish lessons today”

February 27, 2020 10:39PM PT A desperate woman’s good intentions make a bad situation much worse in this tense and twisty Southern noir thriller. In the opening moments of “ Blood on Her Name, ” an arrestingly twisty and suspenseful Southern noir thriller in the tradition of “One False Move, ” we’re introduced to Leigh, the working-class protagonist played by Bethany Anne Lind, with a jarring close-up that is at once explicit and ambiguous. Her face is battered, her breathing is labored, and she appears to have just gotten the worst of it in a fight. But, then again, maybe not the very worst of it. The bloodied man lying in front of her, we quickly learn, isn’t just unconscious or injured; he is seriously dead. And even before she pauses before completing a 911 call, it’s quite clear that, whatever the reason for the guy’s recent quietus, Leigh views his inconvenient corpse as incriminating evidence. This is the first of several wrong decisions — most, but by no means all, made by Leigh — that propel the fatalistic narrative director Matthew Pope and co-writer Don M. Thompson have devised for “Blood on Her Name, ” a film that remains relentlessly absorbing for all of its compact 83-minute length largely because it places its audience in the position of helpless witnesses to a slow-motion trainwreck. Pope and Thompson shrewdly structure their story so that, right from the start, we’re prompted to have a rooting interest in Leigh, even before we know for certain exactly how culpable she is for — well, for what? A self-defense killing? A crime of passion? A violent conclusion to a criminal co-conspiracy? We learn the truth only gradually, as the filmmakers slowly unveil the motives of Leigh and other characters in the manner of someone slowly, almost tauntingly, peeling an onion. But, again, they persuade us to be instinctively sympathetic toward Leigh, thereby making it all the more nerve-wracking when she tries — belatedly, ill-advisedly — to do the right thing. If it seems like I’m being a tad evasive about plot particulars, well, that’s only because I am. Your enjoyment of “Blood on Her Name” likely will be inversely proportionate to how much you know about it ahead of time. Leigh — played by Lind throughout the movie with exceptionally compelling and emotionally precise skill — owns the none-too-successful small-town garage where the act of violence takes place, and she’s anxious to move the body as quickly as possible, as far away as possible. But she has a change of heart before she dumps it into a nearby lake. Rather, she feels that the dead man’s girlfriend and teenage son are entitled to have some sense of closure, or at least find comfort in the knowledge that the guy didn’t simply abandon them. So she stashes the corpse in a shed at the trailer park where they reside, and leaves behind an anonymous note expressing regret. It’s a decent thing to do, but also a terribly self-incriminating mistake. And to make matters worse, the note isn’t the only thing she leaves behind. As Leigh’s mistakes accumulate, we’re periodically given jigsaw-piece revelations about why she is doing what she’s doing, and how much what she’s done in the past is an impetus. The info comes mostly through her contacts with such vividly defined supporting characters as Ryan (Jared Ivers), her teenage son, whose own violent behavior could make him a prime suspect; Richard (Will Patton), her estranged father, a sheriff who’s willing to bend and break a few laws to protect his daughter; Rey (Jimmy Gonzales), a mechanic who appears to be Leigh’s sole remaining employee at her failing business; and Dani (Elisabeth Rohm), the victim’s girlfriend, who turns out to have more than a little in common with Leigh. The interactions and miscalculations interlock with what feels like the inevitability of unforgiving fate. At the same time, however, you are never not aware that one smart move could possibly forestall disaster. Everything leads inexorably to a dead-solid-perfect denouement that suggests a perfect moral for this drama about desperate characters driven to extremes: Once you’re well along on the road to perdition, it may not be a good idea to attempt a detour. This has to be the most gut-wrenching, heart-jerking scene I've seen in a war film. The score goes along with it perfectly. I am not ashamed to admit that the beauty of this composition caused emotions to swell inside of me I didn't even realise I had. Thank you Mr. Newman.

Had a privilege to watch this extraordinary movie about war, survival and friendship. Scenes are not overpowering and they are appropriately selected for the movie. The World War I film pulled an upset and took home the Golden Globe for Best Picture, Drama earlier this month, and also won the prestigious PGA Award for Best Picture this weekend. It snagged 10 nominations at the 92nd Academy Awards, and looks to be the front runner for the big prize on February 9. Directed by Sam Mendes ( American Beauty), who also co-wrote the script with Krysty Wilson-Cairns, 1917 stars George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman as two WWI soldiers tasked with a dangerous but important mission. Shot by famed cinematographer Roger Deakins, this film is wowing audiences because of the way in which it appears to be filmed in a single shot; in reality, though, it has hidden cuts throughout. That’s what we in the entertainment business call “movie magic. ” IS 1917 ON NETFLIX? WHEN CAN I STREAM 1917 ON NETFLIX? Nope! This movie was released in New York and Los Angeles on Christmas day in 2019, and opened wide on January 10, 2020. It is currently playing in theaters, but it’s not on Netflix. It’s also unlikely that the film will be coming to Netflix anytime soon because it is a Universal film, and most Universal films end up being shown by HBO after their VOD (video-on-demand) window. WHERE CAN I STREAM 1917? WHEN IS SAM MENDES’S MOVIE 1917 AVAILABLE ON VOD? WHERE CAN I WATCH 1917? You cannot stream 1917 right now, sadly. Do not fear, though, because 1917 will be on VOD eventually. We don’t know when that will be just yet, but it will probably be sometime around April 2020. Last year, Universal released Welcome to Marwen in late December, and then on DVD and VOD in April. So come April, you will most likely be able to purchase 1917 on Amazon, iTunes, YouTube, or wherever you purchase digital content. (You can also pre-order 1917 on Amazon, iTunes, Vudu, or whatever your favorite VOD platform of choice is, if you’re so inclined. ) If you’re hoping to catch the film before the Oscars, though, your best bet is to go to the movie theater.

Already proven to be exceptional, the SPR formula is a War masterpiece- but to call this movie an achievement, well, not really, as it's been done before. I like the movie, a lot. It just seems that folks making the big bucks in cinema today, should be paid to 'Innovate. not Imitate.

In as actually wanted to see the movie because I'm a big William Levy fan and a romance sucker. So I loved the idea of the storyline. It being in Spanish made it that much more awesome. William and Alicia played great chemistry between their characters even not long after they met each other in character you can see the chemistry "Victor" and "Sarai" gave off each other without words. And I felt the action was there in the movie. I'm hoping they continue the book series into movies.

La culpa es de Levy xD.

And it’s not simply because Color Out of Space is Stanley’s first project since the legendary fiasco that was 1996’s The Island of Dr. Moreau (the subject of the truly excellent documentary Lost Soul), although that’s a huge part of it. Nor is it just because it’s a gonzo indie film pitting Nicolas Cage against invincible forces of cosmic horror. (Who else would you elect to represent humanity in that situation? ) No, the reason to get excited is because Stanley’s new film is an adaptation of one of famed horror author H. P. Lovecraft ’s most iconic stories. It’s also one of the very few film adaptations of Lovecraft’s work. Image via Warner Bros. / New Line Lovecraft has had a major influence on modern horror fiction for the past 100 years. Stephen King constantly references Lovecraftian names and places in his novels, and some of his most popular ideas are heavily inspired by the author’s work. IT ’s Pennywise the Clown is essentially a Great Old One from Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos, two words that Google Docs did not underline as being misspelled. The ultimate gauge of whether or not something is in the mainstream in 2020. His work influenced other major writers like Neil Gaiman, Clive Barker, Alan Moore, William S. Burroughs, and Psycho author Robert Bloch. So how come so few of his stories have been directly translated into films? Hollywood has been mining King’s work for decades, and has started looting his literary treasury with increased fervor thanks in part to the streaming wars (virtually everything he’s ever written is being developed as a series or film right now, to the point where Hulu is probably hours away from buying the rights to his Buffalo Wild Wings receipts). But Lovecraft is comparatively untouched, despite the fact that he has been dead approximately forever and most of his work is in the public domain (meaning anyone is free to adapt it). Image via Empire Pictures The two best Lovecraft films are arguably Stuart Gordon ’s Re-Animator and John Carpenter ’s In the Mouth of Madness. But Re-Animator is a loose adaptation at best, and Carpenter’s film is an homage to the author’s work not actually based on any of his writing. Meanwhile, The Colour Out of Space is one of Lovecraft’s most adapted works, if not the most adapted. The Boris Karloff film Die, Monster, Die! is a hilariously loose adaptation but still a recognizable one, with the same basic plot of a meteorite crashing to earth and infecting the plant and animal life around it. The 1987 film The Curse is more close to the source material, but updates the story to contemporary times (Stanley’s new adaptation does the same). Ironically, Stephen King’s novel The Tommyknockers borrows heavily from The Colour Out of Space by the author’s own admission, except in King’s story the source of the blight is an alien spacecraft rather than a malevolent cosmic fragment. And that book got a reasonably faithful adaptation as a miniseries starring Jimmy Smitts. I want to see Smitts in Lovecraft Country, dangit. There was also a pretty cheesy version of The Dunwich Horror made in 1970 starring Quantum Leap ’s Dean Stockwell and Ed Begley in his final film role, and that is approximately the most notable thing about it. And other than a small handful of incredibly loose adaptations, that’s pretty much it. Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro has been trying to get an adaptation of Lovecraft’s novella At the Mountains of Madness made for years to no avail. Cthulhu is such a recognizable horror figure that he regularly pops up on bumper stickers, but we’ve never seen a major film or TV adaptation of “The Call of Cthulhu”, the story in which the monstrous extra-dimensional being was created. Image via American International Pictures So why is Lovecraft, one of the most popular and influential architects of horror and the man for whom the entire subgenre of Lovecraftian horror is named, so largely absent from film and television adaptations? Part of it could be the fact that Lovecraft’s work has been called “unfilmable. ” The vast majority of his fiction involves unreliable narrators, heavy internal monologues, and very little action. Most of the horror of his stories come from what is not seen, and when a phase beast or dimensional shambler or some other mind-rending cosmic terror does show itself, the characters are often so irrevocably shaken by the insanity of what they are seeing that they are incapable of providing a complete or accurate description. (This is a device King has borrowed in his own work, most famously when revealing the true form of Pennywise in IT. ) According to Lovecraft historians, and personal writings by the author himself, Lovecraft didn’t believe in his ability to write action scenes, so he tended to avoid them. Image via RLJE Films Also, Lovecraft worked entirely in the realm of short fiction. With some notable exceptions, the majority of his stories are only a few dozen pages long. Some are even shorter than that. Given the challenge of visually adapting his bizarre descriptions paired with the limited narrative of most of his work, I can understand a producer looking at a pile of Lovecraft manuscripts and shouting “HOW IS ANY OF THIS A MOVIE? ” into a tumbler of scotch. The much-adapted King writes his novels like screenplays (for the most part), so the journey from page to film is much clearer. Lovecraft wrote spooky literary essays to impress the editors of unspeakably nerdy pulp magazines. The popcorn appeal there is way less obvious. Whatever the case may be for the relative lack of Lovecraft adaptations over the past several decades, Color Out of Space looks like the World Series for Lovecraft fans, which is an analogy the author himself would’ve hated, because he allegedly despised games. That’s because Stanley has said that he’s currently working on adapting Lovecraft’s short story The Dunwich Horror into a movie that will connect to Color Out of Space as part of a trilogy in an expanded Lovecraft cinematic universe. Like The Colour Out of Space, Dunwich has been adapted into film a handful of times, and together with The Shadow over Innsmouth form the three of the author’s stories with the most adaptations. So if The Dunwich Horror ends up happening and manages to be successful, I’ll bet a canvas bag full of chthonian artifacts that the third film will be The Shadow over Innsmouth. And hopefully Nicolas Cage will be in all three.

El color surgido del espacio amor. I've seen ALOT of movies in my day, this ranks right up there one of the WORST. There was no plot, just a bunch of gimmicky pointless scenes depicting this family in distress... One schlocky scene after the next. The talents of Nicholas Cage and Joely Richardson were wasted with scenes that were increasingly disturbing as the film went along. There were disturbing scenes of animals in distress. The movie went nowhere except for a spiraling out of control mess with one ridiculous scene designed to disturb after the next... A total waste of two hours...

Lovecraft. It stars Nicolas Cage, Joely Richardson, Madeleine Arthur, Q'orianka Kilcher and Tommy Chong. This is Stanley's first feature film directed since his firing from The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996). [9] According to Stanley, it is the first film in a trilogy of Lovecraft adaptations, which he hopes to follow up with an adaptation of The Dunwich Horror. [10] Plot [ edit] In the wake of his wife Theresa's mastectomy, Nathan Gardner moves his family to a rural farm where he attempts to grow tomatoes and raise alpacas for their milk. His daughter, Lavinia, takes up Wicca and performs rituals in hopes of restoring her mother's health. One of these rituals is interrupted by the arrival of Ward, a hydrologist, surveying the water table in planning for a hydroelectric dam. The family is strained by the move - Theresa, a financial adviser, is losing clients because she cannot get a reliable internet signal in their remote location; Nathan feels neglected because they have not had sex since her surgery six months ago and the rest of his family does not take his attempts at farming seriously; his son Benny hangs around with Ezra, a local hermit, and has started smoking pot; his youngest son Jack is withdrawn and only interacts with their family dog, Sam. One night, Nathan convinces Theresa that despite her feelings of mutilation she is still attractive, and they begin to have sex, but they are interrupted when a brilliantly glowing meteor crash lands in their front yard. The rock emits an unearthly Color which distorts the world around it and causes Nathan to detect a horrific smell. The next morning, the meteor is no longer glowing and is crumbling to dust. Ward, along with the mayor and the sheriff of the nearby town of Arkham arrive to see it. Later, Nathan and Lavinia witness the meteor being struck by several bolts of lightning. Ward notices that the groundwater has taken on an oily sheen and tests it. When his test strips begin to glow brightly with the Color, he advises the Gardners not to drink it, but he cannot persuade the mayor to do anything since she does not want to scare off the dam developers. Jack becomes obsessed with a well which stands a few feet from where the meteor landed. Strange, brightly colored vegetation begins growing around it, mutated insects fly out of it, and Jack insists he can hear a man in there. Ward visits Ezra, who plays a tape recording for him of what he says are people moving around underground. A news crew arrives to interview Nathan about the meteor, but it has mysteriously vanished and Nathan comes off looking like a drunken fool. Later, while Theresa is preparing dinner, she absentmindedly cuts off two of her fingers. While Nathan rushes her to the hospital, he leaves Benny in charge, but things quickly get out of hand as Benny finds the alpacas uncontrollable, Sam runs away and Jack is traumatized by something he saw in the well. Nathan excoriates Benny and Lavinia, lashing out with uncharacteristic rage. He tries to take a shower but is interrupted when a squid-like creature emerges from the drain. The next day, after Nathan tries to harvest his tomatoes - which have all turned out misshapen and inedible - he and Theresa get into a fight when the internet goes out again and she loses a client. The next night, Theresa hears Jack and Benny screaming in the barn and rushes to their aid. To their horror, something awful has happened to the alpacas, and they try to flee the barn only to be struck by several bolts of Color lightning which fuses Theresa and Jack together into a single, deranged mass. Unable to start the car or call for help as all electronic devices have started malfunctioning, Nathan and the other children carry the monster into the attic where they struggle to decide what to do about the miserable, gibbering thing. Nathan, enraged at what the Color has done to his family, gets a shotgun and enters the barn, where he finds all of his alpacas fused together, and he destroys the resulting creature. He returns to the attic, orders his children to leave, and prepares to put down his mutated wife and son, but he cannot go through with it. Lavinia tries to perform a Wiccan ceremony to save her family, mutilating herself in the process. She and Benny conspire to run away from the farm, but as they are preparing to leave, Benny hears Sam whining down in the well and insists on going down after him. The Color bursts from the water and kills him, driving Lavinia insane. Losing his grip on sanity, Nathan locks Lavinia in the attic with the monster, which has now grown aggressive and attacks her. Ward and the sheriff arrive and break into the attic, and Nathan kills the creature. As they exit the house, the Color erupts out of the well and drives Nathan insane. He tries to shoot the Color, but the sheriff mistakes Nathan's aim for Ward and shoots Nathan, who dies in Lavinia's arms. Lavinia declares she will not leave. Still intent on leaving, Ward and the sheriff go to pick up Ezra, but only find his dessicated corpse and a recording he left behind, where he surmises that the Color is attempting to remake Earth into "something it knows. " The corpse implodes, raining Color down everywhere, and a tree comes to life and kills the sheriff while Ward flees. Ward arrives and attempts to rescue Lavinia, but the Color explodes from the well and roars into the sky in a towering funnel. Lavinia touches him and shares with him her vision of where the Color hails from – a horrific sector of outer space inhabited by repulsive, tentacled alien entities similar to itself – and as he is traumatized, she dissolves into dust from her corruption. Attempting to save himself, Ward hides in the farmhouse, where space and time begin to unravel around him as he is confronted by jumbled visions of the Gardner family, and attacked by a murderous apparition of Nathan speaking in all of the family's voices, and narrowly hides in the wine cellar as the Color vanishes into the sky, tearing down the house and leaving the surrounding farmland a "blasted heath", covered in ash and drained of all color and life except for Ward himself. In an epilogue, a traumatized Ward stands on top of the finished dam, and says that knowing what he knows about this place, he will never drink its water, and affirming his fear that more beings like the Color may find their way to Earth as well. [11] She read Lovecraft's works to Stanley when he was young. [11] At the age of 12 or 13, he read " The Colour Out of Space ", which has "always been a part of [his] psychological makeup". [11] When his mother suffered from cancer, Stanley read Lovecraft's works to her in her declining years. [11] Stanley initially announced the project in 2013, showcasing a proof of concept trailer online. [12] [13] In September 2015, it was announced that Spectrevision would be producing the film with a projected start date of early 2016. [14] After many delays, it was announced in December 2018 that Nicolas Cage had signed to play the lead role and that filming would begin in early 2019 with co-producers SpectreVision and ACE Pictures. [15] [16] In January 2019, the production announced additional cast members including stars Joely Richardson, Tommy Chong, Elliot Knight, Julian Hilliard and Q'Orianka Kilcher. [17] [18] Filming took place in Portugal [19] in February 2019. [20] Release [ edit] Color Out of Space premiered on September 7, 2019 in the Midnight Madness portion of the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival. [21] On September 6, 2019, it was announced that RLJE Films acquired U. S. rights in a low-mid seven figure deal. “Color Out of Space” was financed by Ace Pictures and XYZ Films handled international sales on the film. [2] Following select preview screenings on January 22, the film was released in 81 theaters in the United States on January 24, 2020. [22] With previews and the first weekend box office, the film grossed $358, 154 over four days. [6] Critical response [ edit] On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Color Out of Space holds an approval rating of 86%, based on 152 reviews, and an average rating of 6. 69/10. Its consensus reads, "A welcome return for director Richard Stanley, Color Out of Space mixes tart B-movie pulp with visually alluring Lovecraftian horror and a dash of gonzo Nicolas Cage. " [23] On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 70 out of 100, based on 26 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews". [24] Chris Bumbray from Arrow in the Head rated the film a score of 7/10, praising the film's performances, visual style and effects while noting the film's length. Bumbray summarized his review by writing, "While it's maybe a touch slow and arty for hardcore horror fans, Color Out of Space is still a handy comeback for Richard Stanley, who hasn't lost a beat. " [25] Mary Beth Andrews from Daily Grindhouse gave the film a positive review, writing, "His [Richard Stanley] film successfully captures the madness of Lovecraft's work and is a dazzling modern interpretation. [... ] Lovecraft is notoriously hard to adapt, but Stanley walks the fine line between horror and existential dread to create a successful adaptation". [26] Deborah Young from The Hollywood Reporter offered the film similar praise, writing, "Hitting the main plot points with well-designed SFX and some impressive night photography, Stanley's film manages to be frightening indeed, even with star Nicolas Cage's semi-farcical leavening adding some nutty laughs. " [27] Jonathan Barkan of Dread Central awarded the film 3. 5 out of 5 stars, praising the film's visual style, special effects, and soundtrack, while criticizing the film's first and third act. Nevertheless, Barken summarized his review by stating, "Gorgeous, vibrant, and terrifying, Color Out of Space is packed with Lovecraftian creatures and cosmic infections galore. It's not perfect but goddamn is it a wild ride. " [28] Dennis Harvey from Variety gave the film a mostly positive review, noting the film's uneven tone, "full-bore" climax, and Cage's "arbitrarily oddball" performance; while praising the film's otherworldly imagery, cinematography, and direction. [1] The Skinny ' s Katie Goh gave to the film a rating of 3 on 5, stating that: " Colour Out of Space is at its best when Stanley goes for this subtle and intelligent filmmaking, gesturing at the horror rather than pushing it in our faces". [29] Howard Gorman from NME praised Stanley's welcome return, underlining the core "intense, unpredictable and harrowing moral tale, " and Cage putting in his "most nuanced" turn in the last decade. I just watched it, and was so disappointed. El color surgido del espacio con. If you are going to make a dumb movie you should at least make use of Cage's assets effectively. Lovecraft mythos has been almost always plagued by low to pitiful budgets and with wild modifications to the author's original design.
Not here.
Albeit the being ported to present days, the right ambiance was created, the wonder at the otherworldly is present and the incredible distortions of reality are shown.
Definitely worth your while. Hey Jay. Has anyone ever asked you to do an analysis on the film Gummo? Because you should. It's pretty deep.

I did not read the book. I have no idea about the origin of the movie. I just wanted to watch a Nick Cage movie, I got roped in because I am a space movei fan, thinking the title meant something. From the positive reviews I thought why not. Well, I am one of the nots! The last half of the movie, the acting was just brutal. Some of the scenes are very disturbing. What was the point of the movie? I gave it 0 for the movie and 1 for the visual effects. This movie is a hot mess. There is absolutely nothing redeming about watching this movie.

The movie is remarkably true to the key story points and while the performances are over the top, Richard Stanley captures the dread and charm of Lovecraft in a way I've not seen before. There are a few elements that felt extraneous and felt a bit indulgent for my tastes, but I cannot wait to see Spectrevision and Stanley put together the Dunwich Horror and whatever the third film in his Lovecraft Trilogy might be. Also, I hope you like alpacas, as they feature prominently in this film. Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2020 Format: Prime Video Verified Purchase Unfortunately it still suffers from a few problems that for me, were hard to get past. For one, anyone even remotely familiar knows, as soon as they see "Based on the story by H. P. Lovecraft, " that the meteor is a harbinger for some ancient evil god that defies human conception. You're five minutes into the movie and there's nothing to figure out, even if you have never read Color Out of Space. Second, is this trying to be a horror movie? I never really felt a sense of dread. Monster reveals were too early and in too full detail. Is Lovecraft even supposed to be frightening? Third, some of the visual effects which could have really contributed to the experience were poorly done, especially the vision at the end of the film. But, forgiving all of that, this is still the best that Lovecraft has ever been done on screen. Nick Cage is hilarious early in the movie. And most of the flaws that people will point too arise directly from the difficulty in trying to migrate Lovecraft from writing to cinema. My 5 star review is a vote for more high budget Lovecraft movies. Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2020 Format: Prime Video Verified Purchase As an avid reader of Lovecraft's work, this was the one I wanted to see in movie form the most. The creators behind this film didn't disappoint. Color out of Space has a healthy mix of original plot, some new stuff thrown in to "moviefy" it, and a healthy dose of shlock sprinkled on top. The effects are good and so is the acting (yes, we get plenty of Nicolas Cage screaming), and there never really feels like a slow point. Some of the visuals are disturbing, so keep that in mind if you're watching with younger people. Mild spoilers below! If you're looking for a 1 to 1 reflection of the original story, you will not find it here. It hits plenty of the same notes, with the thing coming down from space and slowly ruining the lives of the nearby family, though it's been turned into more of a supernatural thriller/creature feature. It works well enough; the monsters and effects are one part John Carpenter's The Thing and one part From Beyond. All of the practical effects are very well done, and most of the CGI is subtle and looks good too (there's a jumpscare with a creature about halfway through the movie which had me worried, but the rest was pretty good). If you're a fan of Lovecraft, a fan of weird monster films, or just interested in an unconventional alien movie, I recommend you check this one out. Lovecraft, the celebrated American horror-science fiction writer. The story revolves around a family that live out in the woods who happen to have a meteor crash into their backyard. It infects the water and completely distorts reality for everyone involved. The movie is very mixed and will likely have people love it and hate it as well. Here’s the good. The story is very original. There are mixes of great visuals and horror mixed in together. Nicolas Cage who plays the father Nathan gets to play crazy and does a great job, and the daughter Lavinia played by Madeleine Arthur is a standout as well. The problem for me was that I never felt a connection to the film. Even when things started getting weird, which I usually like it just didn’t get me interested enough to care. The only redeeming quality was to watch Cage go nuts which is always fun, otherwise the movie did very little for me. Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2020 Format: DVD I love the works of HPL and the mythos around them. A problem for me has always been the adaptations that have come from his work as I find 99% of them to be awful or nothing like the source material they are based on. "The Color Out of Space" is, in my opinion, a return to form for HPL adaptations AND for writer/director Richard Stanley. I loved every minute of this film and thought it did a great job updating the story that takes place around 100 years prior to today. The cinematography, the use of lines from the actual story, the tone, the references to the rest of "Lovecraft Country", the performances, and the actual horror were all great. I will definitely be buying the BD when its released in Feb and I hope it comes with plenty of extras and commentary. I saw this film at Central Cinema in Knoxville, TN Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2020 Format: Blu-ray Verified Purchase I found this movie to be relatively enjoyable, but I can see how some people may not derive as much enjoyment as I did. Prior to watching this: I read the original short story, watched the older foreign-language film, and seen all of the prior Richard Stanley movies including the documentary about his attempt to film The Island of Doctor Moreau. Needless to say, this movie was right up my alley and while the scares were lacking, the final product left me wanting more Richard Stanley movies and more Lovecraft adaptations that are not just your run of the mill Cthulhu-mainstream-watered down drivel.
